LIVE 5k event

I am sat typing this after what has most possibility been one of my favourite running days ever! Today, saw the inaugural (yes that does mean we hope to return) Virtual Runner Live 5k event take place in Nottingham.

After months of planning, with massive help from friends at Perfect Motion (http://www.perfectmotion.org/) and many a supportive face, we got our first live event across the start line. And what a start is was! 232 runners lined up at The Becket School in West Bridgford after an exciting registration process (the buzz in the room was electric).

After a race briefing, our runners of all ages and abilities crossed the timing mats and set off along the 5.5k route along the river and Nottingham Embankment. I have to admit to being very jealous to not be with you at this point (but another first was publishing our first Facebook Live which I was in charge of!) and I also had the important job of handing out medals to consider. And there was no chance I was going to beat Matthew Keyworth, our winner to achieve both!

This afternoon, I have been reading incredible feedback from the runners and volunteers which really has been the icing on the cake for me. I have of course, also approved lots of submissions from those of you who took part virtually. In summary, today has been an all round success, so many people have got out running (and dare I say – even enjoyed it)! And I feel incredibly proud to have been able to be involved in what has been an inspiring day.

Oh, and we’re still counting the money raised for Headway; the Brain Injury association (https://www.headway.org.uk/), but it is well over £1,000!

May I finally take the opportunity to thank everyone who joined us – every volunteer and runner was truly incredible and made today so special. And I cannot forget the guys at Kerry’s Fresh for providing the fruit and spot prizes – please check them out (https://www.kerrysfresh.co.uk/)

Well done all and see you at the next start line!
